Chong Chau Island

Chongchau Island lies among the Outlying Islands and is the most populated district. Here worshipped deity Pak Tau is revered by original settlers and subsequent migrations. Since late 19th century annually celebrated festival honoring Pak Tau originally held by Haifu Fen residents in Hong Kong. Source of fresh water - single underwater pipe from Lantau. Archaeological discoveries indicate human presence over three thousand years ago. During Opium War island defended by military post with garrison.
