Ivan the Terrible's Hill

Val of Ivan the Terrible - a fragment of fortifications of the Lower Castle in Polotsk. It is an earthen mound with a wooden wall about 600 meters long, up to 30 meters wide at the base. The central part was occupied by a donjon tower. Fortifications date back to the time of the Livonian War and have been partially preserved. The total area of the Lower Castle was approximately 6 hectares.
