Simeon Polotsk Monument

The monument to Simon Polotsky is located in the historical center of Polotsk and was installed in 2004. Sculptor Alexander Finsky depicted a monk-educator, poet and dramatist who was born in this city in 1629 and later became a tutor to tsar's children in Moscow. Simon Polotsky played an important role in the development of book and theatrical culture in Russia in the 17th century. The monument symbolizes the polotsk tradition of education and literacy.
