Holy Protection Cathedral

The Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Polotsk was restored after a fire in 1900 and closure in the 1930s by Soviet authorities. Dedicated in 2004, it stands on its original foundation where an earlier wooden church once stood. Initially it was a cemetery chapel of the Bogoyavlensky Monastery, later becoming parish in 1833. The building suffered significant damage in a fire in the 1960s.
