Southwestern Bastion of Nesvizh Castle

The southwest bastion of Nesvizh Castle was built in the late 16th century and represents an example of novoitallian fortification system. It features an integrated two-tiered underground casern tower and underground passages used for troop and weapon movement. The structure reaches a height of 23 meters. Inside the bastion artillery, garrison and a ventilation shaft for secret ammunition delivery were housed. In April 1706 the bastion was destroyed by Swedes. A modern stationary bridge near the castle was constructed in 1914.
