Prospect of Independence

Independence Avenue in Minsk is the city's central axis featuring an ensemble with Independence Square, Victory Square and Yakub Kolas Square. Its historical section about 2.9 km long was included by Belarus in the preliminary list of UNESCO World Heritage. Previously known as Soviet Street, Lenin Street and Stalin Avenue, it has been named since 1991. Important buildings include GUM and the Government House of Belarus.
