Castle Street

Castle Street in Grodno is known for its historical significance and variety of architecture. It is the place where the act of abdication of the last Polish king Stanisław August Poniatowski was signed in 1795. The street survived two world conflicts and lost valuable historical buildings due to Soviet authorities after the war. Previously it bore names such as "Jewish" and "Great Castle." In the 17th century, here were palaces of magnates from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
