Old Grodno Fortress

The Old Town of Grodno is situated on Zamkova Street, 22. Here, stone tools and ceramic artifacts from the Neolithic era were found indicating an ancient settlement. A fortified settlement emerged in late X - early XI century, while systematic archaeological excavations began in the 1920s. Investigations revealed wooden streets from the XII century and remains of churches from various epochs including the first known stone church of the city built in the XII century.
