South Gates of Brest Fortress

Southern Gates of Brest Fortress, also known as Nikolevskie, were an important defensive element of the 19th century. Located on the southern side of Volynsky ukreplenie, they provided connection to southern directions and Volynia via strategically significant roads. Today these gates are among few surviving elements of fortress architecture. Nearby stands garrison church of Saint Nikolay, which gave them their second name.
