Garrison Cathedral of Saint Nikolay

St.-Nikolaevsky Garrison Cathedral in Brest is situated on the grounds of the memorial complex "Brest Fortress-Hero". A monument of neo-byzantine architecture was built from 1856 to 1879 and first opened for services in 1877. After damages during World War I, the temple remained in ruins until it was transferred to the Orthodox community in 1994. The first service took place again in 1991. The architectural style of the cathedral resembles the Byzantine church of Hagia Sophia.
