Haghartn Monastery
Vayots Dzor Region, Arpa Gorge, near Gondewaz village
The monastery of Gndevank is situated in the gorge of river Arpa near the village of Gndevaz. It was founded by Syunik princess Sophia and originally served as an hermitage for ascetics. The main church of the complex is dedicated to Saint Stepanos. The ghatavit (covered porch) of the monastery was built in 999 AD by abbot Christophor. The eastern part of the church has two side aisles while its western side is adjacent to the ghatavit. The path leading to the monastery goes through Vayk-Djermuk.
