Black Fortress Gyumri

Black Fortress, also known as Sev-Berd, is situated on the western outskirts of Gyumri. It is a Russian military fortress of the 19th century built between 1834-1847 after the Russo-Turkish war. The fortress features a unique circular fortification design made from dark volcanic tufa, earning its name. Today it serves as a cultural-event space and one of the city's key vantage points. Its round silhouette stands out atop the hill above Gyumri.
