Surb Astaracan Church Sevanagank

Surb Astvatsatsin Church in Sevanavank Monastery built in 874 is the second surviving church of the ensemble. It features cross-vault architecture constructed from dark volcanic tufa. The temple's name translates to "Holy Mother". Carved wooden capitals from its associated chapel are valuable examples of Armenian wood art now kept in museums. Located approximately ten meters northeast of Surb Arakelots Church it forms an architectural pair within the Sevan Peninsula monastery complex.
