Sevanavank

Sevanavank Monastery Complex is located on the Sevan Peninsula and is one of the region's most famous cultural landmarks. Founded in 874 by Queen Mariam, daughter of King Ashot I. Today, two surviving churches can be seen: Surb Arakelots and Surb Astvatsatsin built from dark tufa. The complex is notable for originally being situated on an island that later became a peninsula due to the lowering of lake level.
