Makenač Monastery

The Makenyats Monastery is situated near the village of Makenis, in Gegharkunik Province adjacent to Lake Sevan. It is an important architectural monument from the 9th to 13th centuries, once serving as a significant spiritual and educational hub for the region. The main church of the monastery, Surb Astanatsin, is built in the shape of a cross with a conical dome and dates back to 851 AD; its foundation is linked to Prince Grigor Supan II.
