Saint Shogakht Church

The Church of Saint Shoghakat is situated in the Holy Ripsime district, Vagarshapat. It is included in UNESCO's World Heritage List and linked to an early Christian chapel from the 4th century. Every year on St. John the Baptist's day pilgrims come here. The temple's name relates to the appearance of light at the site of the martyrdom of the maidens Ripsimian. Shoghakat also forms part of the Ararats Week Pilgrimage route of the Armenian Church.
