Open Altar of Saint King Trdat

The Open Altar of Saint King Trdat in Vagarshapat was built in 2001. It was erected by benefactor Luiz Manukyan-Simon according to architects Jim Torosyan and Romero Julakian's design in honor of Armenia's 1700th anniversary of adopting Christianity. Here, holy myrrh is consecrated and rituals with pomegranate fruits and grapes are performed. In front of the altar there is an area for mass participation of believers in worship services.
