Saint Ripsime Monastery

Saint Ripsime Monastery is situated on Mesrop Mashtots Street in Vagarshapat city. Founded in 618, it is among Armenia's oldest churches preserving its religious function throughout centuries. It represents an early example of central-domed Armenian architecture. To the church was added a porch built in 1688, while to the west there is a underground storage room "magac" for food products. Annually, the monastery becomes a pilgrimage site during the festival of Saint Virgins Ripsimianok.
