Echmiadzin Cathedral

Echmiadzin Cathedral is located in Vagarshapat city and serves as the main church of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the spiritual center of the country. Founded at the beginning of the IV century when Armenia adopted Christianity as its state religion, the cathedral's name meaning "the Only-Begotten descended" refers to a vision experienced by Gregory the Illuminator. After extensive restoration in 2024, it reopened its doors for worshippers. It is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List along with other monuments of Vagarshapat and the ruins of Zvartnots.
